FOREWORD BY RIGHT HONOURABLE CHOW KON YEOW
CHIEF MINISTER OF PENANG
Penang is now gearing up for the state development vision
of Penang 2030 as a Family-focused Green and Smart State to Inspire the Nation.
In this vision, there are four (4) main themes, and the fourth theme of investing
in infrastructure and public infrastructure environment to enhance resilience is
important in the development of a holistic transport network.
It is a major step in transforming the landscape of the state of Penang into a modern and smart state; providing higher income and better quality of life. In addition, with the rapid development of technology internationally, if we do not act proactively in creating an integrated environment with IT-intensive mode and sophisticated facilities, the state of Penang will be marginalized in modernization.
PTMP is a comprehensive and efficient transportation strategy plan by having an integrated and modern transportation system that includes land and sea transportation for the benefit of the people of Penang. The plan of this transportation plan consists of various modes of transport such as LRT, Monorail, BRT, Tram, Taxi and Ferries.
Therefore, PTMP is seen as a master plan of transformative transportation that addresses the challenges faced and can help achieve the economic and social balance of the State, especially in dealing with traffic congestion problems.
With the State Government’s efforts and initiatives to develop the Penang State transport network, the State Government will be able to achieve inclusive growth and balance the socioeconomic gap between regions in the north and south of the island – so that future generations of Penang, our children, grandchildren and our great-grandchildren can enjoy a better prospect of progress to improve their lives.
Sustainable development of a state or country depends on systematic and realistic planning. It has a major impact on the economic growth, vitality and sustainability of a city. Such planning should not only be cheaper and faster, but more importantly it needs to be more sustainable and competitive and practical. The State Government takes a serious approach to this problem and has begun to design this long-term solution since 2011 and is now in the implementation phase.
In fact, the development of a holistic transport network is a key step in driving the Penang state towards modernization and smart cities; where it provides higher income and better quality of life. In addition, with the rapid development of technology internationally, proactive act is necessary in creating an integrated environment with more advanced and high technology facilities.
